And then we were at Crocodile Bridge where I pulled out my new Tamron 90mm macro lens and looked for some subject matter.

At Crocodile Bridge we stopped at the picnic spot for breakfast. This is just such a magical camp with everything so clean and green.

They had the sprinklers on and there were a few Yellow-fronted Canary's playing in the puddles and spray. The first of our firsts.

This one shook himself as I took the photo. Very difficult to get them sitting still.

Bush braai activity now from Crocodile Bridge

SEPTEMBER 18, 2018

A gorgeous new bush braai venue, accessible from Crocodile Bridge, hosts visitors for a classic Kruger experience. With guided game viewing, a night drive and dinner under the stars, this activity shows you the park after sunset.

Have you ever wondered what happens in the Kruger National Park after dark? Or longed to head deep into the bush, where few people ever set foot? A new bush braai activity, departing from Crocodile Bridge, now lets you in on the secret. Combining an afternoon game drive, sundowners, dinner in the bush and a night drive, this guided outing is the quintessential Kruger experience.

Image

The excursion begins in the late afternoon with a guided game drive from Crocodile Bridge. This is prime time for game viewing: with the heat of the day abating, animals make their way to waterholes and dams to drink. The area north of Crocodile Bridge is famously game rich, with lion, hyena and cheetah regularly sighted. Along the water courses look out for hippo, crocodile, antelope and water birds.

“As the sun starts to set, the colour of the sky is spectacular and the light beautiful,” says Hein de Jager, marketing manager for operator Royal Safaris. Photographers will want to keep their cameras ready, he advises.

With the sun hanging low in the sky, it’s time for sundowners at the bush braai venue. Romantically lit by lamps, the boma is set in a clearing among impressive trees and has a roaring campfire in the centre. While dinner is readied, all you have to do is sit back, relax and raise your glass to another perfect day in the bush.

To match this incomparable setting, you can’t beat a good old South African braai: meat grilled over the coals, pap and sheba (tomato and onion relish), salads and a traditional dessert. After dinner, there’s time to gather around the campfire and swap stories as you sip on an Amarula – and listen out for the nightlife.

The night drive back to Crocodile Bridge offers an excellent opportunity to view Kruger’s nocturnal animals: owls, spring hare, civet, porcupine and cats – lion, leopard, serval and caracal. “On one drive, our group came across several lions taking a nap in the middle of the road,” reveals Hein. “We couldn’t pass until they moved.” Now that’s one roadblock you won’t mind!

Pumbaa - 2014:

Pumbaa wrote: Mon May 05, 2014 9:47 pm we at last could enter Crocodile Bridge camp and felt home as always in our favourite camp as on top we were once again awarded with bungalow No. 10 which is our absolute favourite one as the view from there is simply stunning onto the river and into the bush and normally to watch wildlife activity from the verandah is also on top very rewarding and we really were not disappointed at all right from the beginning.

Whilst I was preparing our salad for our braai and Timon was always on the go with camera in hands we were visited by a lovely bushbuck lady and only realized later that her cute calf unfortunately was outside the camp and mom was inside camp and both were a bit desperate and moved the whole evening and also the next morning around the fence and tried to reunited themselves again without a fence between them. I can already reveal that finally they walked together into the sunrise the next morning outside the camp.

Image

Then out of my corner of my eye I realized another movement and noticed a huge monitor squashed itself under the fence, made Timon aware of same and this episode ended with Timon following the monitor and it took quite a while until he returned as he tried to capture same in his sleeping room which took quite a while.

Image

The velociraptors out of the movie “Jurassic Park” do look quite similar!

The next animal which was busy in checking the fence was a hyena which was a bit skittish when one came too close and always ducked into the high grass but did not want to leave its comfortable resting place. We later also pointed the resting hyena out to two other people who were taking a walk around camp but they obviously were afraid of the hyena and hurried on after realizing same.

Image

Then the invasion of the vervets took place and after same visited all verandahs of the unoccupied bungalows and did not find something to raid they had to satisfy themselves with the ripe marula fruits which had fallen down from a beautiful large marula tree outside but very close to the fence close to bungalow No. 9 and we had a lot to watch and got very much entertained by them

Image

especially as the cleaning of their hands and mouth do look so very similar the way the humans do.....and furthermore they only chose marulas which had a very special degree of ripeness. All the marulas which just had fallen from the tree kept untouched on the ground.

Image

Whilst our braai got started we could watch the night come and had a delicious meal and had as well a dinner guest in form of a huge elephant bull who was feeding on all remaining marulas on the ground outside the camp and after he had eaten all of them he started to push the tree trunk and more marulas fall down. We had a fantastic evening in watching same so close and we only went to bed after the elephant also left his private marula resort and moved on into the night.

which simply had to be captured and was on top extreme willing to pose

Image

and with the camera already in hand we finally could also photograph one of these transparent lizards which are joining you whilst braiing as soon as you lit the light on the verandah
