From 2018 Kruger management draft plan:
https://www.sanparks.org/assets/docs/co ... t-plan.pdf
Potential risks to tourism in the park are diverse and largely unpredictable. A study conducted during 2016 by the University of Pretoria concluded that rhino poaching and anti-poaching measures do impact tourism and could affect future visitations to the Park.Conservation fees will increasde by 11.3% in 2018/19 for all national parks with rhino’s.This increase has been brought about to support the increasing costs associated with Anti-Poaching operations.

They have already raised the price of the wildcards. For foreigners it must now be considered a
luxury to go to any of the Sanparks with rhinos. Very few are going more than once a year so it is going to affect the budget quite a lot. For a couple it will cost R4.220,00. If staying only for a week it is R603,00 per day

That is R300 per person, or less than 20 €/USD. I don't find it excessive for international tourists who can afford a flight ticket and many nights in lodges. They should be reminded that conservation can be costly.

You cannot count it per person as it would be much more, as the wildcard for a single person isn't half price
Sure that conservation is costly, but we are not really talking about "conservation", but anti-poaching which is a kind of war and a lot of the expenses are paid by companies, private supporters and the various anti-poaching groups. As Kruger has to pay for all the parks not making a profit all the excuses for extra earnings are valid.

It has far more to do with the justification for increases, and the safety of the money generated. It is concerning that the original proposal was a separate levy, and now changed to a general increase...

A little article in Lowvelder states that this year's daily conservation levy increase is now due to rhino costs. This is even more disingenious, in my opinion, as visitors to non-rhino SANParks now subsidise this, according to that logic.
