Lions so close... definitely a bit scary! O-/ Roof top tent it is lol

A leopard sighting as you drove out O\/

Have tried to come up with an ID on that one, but unsuccessfully. You didn't happen to report this sighting to Matthew already?

Very scary Mel O-/

That leopard was about 150ks away from Nossob. Maybe that's why you couldn't ID it. Its far into Botswana.

14th Sept

We packed up again. This time we were heading to Mata Mata.

We found a spotted eagle owl along the way.

Then some bushes with pretty red flowers on the dune road.
Image

This is the iconic view of the Auab river at the end of the dune road ^Q^

Image

We set up camp and spent the afternoon relaxing and catching up with washing. There were some nice birds
in camp.
First up a white-browed sparrow-weaver.

Image

A ground squirrel found a snack to eat.
Image

At last a crimson-breasted shrike that posed beautifully O/\ O/\
Image

We found some suricate or meerkat scratching around for grubs. Nice to see them so close.

After supper 3 of us went to the hide. We were alone and were wondering why we should be so quiet when the rest of
the camp was making a racket, especially the people in the chalets. There was nothing to see except a rabbit :O^
Suddenly a single springbok ran past snorting and glancing back. Something was coming.

Five lions came for a quick drink. Not a good pic - but proof O\/ As quickly as they came they left, but by that time
the hide was overflowing and the fence was lined with people. :O^

There is nothing better than the view of the Auob riverbed after having done the 50 odd kays on the dune where not much is happening most of the times

The meerkat colony is awesome! I think they used to live within the camp but close to the gate some years ago, but seem to have moved into the riverbed by now.
When I first saw them right in front of our riverfront chalet I messed up the photos because I was so surprised by their proximity. And I'm still mad about myself
because of that because there were two meerkats among them that were still kinda babies and certainly the smallest once I have ever seen so far 0*\

Lions at the waterhole O/\

Rather rustic at that first campsite...but you guys were well-organised, to put it mildly!

Do the laadies clean up a bit before pics are taken?

Lion roaring next to tent...must have been a massive racket1 O-/

Wonder what they were doing there... :-?

Nice pics all round1 ^Q^
