Vultures sit always on dead trees, even in the rain - most likely hardwired to avoid shelter
Re: A cat or a lifer a day keep the doctor away
Luckily they had all the time in the world
It was very wet during that time - Luckily it cleared up again for the rest of our trip
It is always fantastic when we see giraffes and luckily they do occur in the entire park and you do see them also during the day in the heat

Re: A cat or a lifer a day keep the doctor away
Meanwhile the rain started to fall again slightly but on the other side of the bridge we discovered two pied kingfishers
waiting for something to catch. Nothing else was around so we continued our way and not far had to stop for a group of hyenas running on the road in the rain
and we even were allowed to take a couple of shots as it is normally not easy to capture these animals once in running mode.
From time to time they even stopped and sniffed a bit on the bushes along the road.
Normally we wanted to pay a final visit to Lower Sabie but as meanwhile the S28 was closed we were not that happy about driving all the way on the tar road so decided to drive back to Biyamiti although we had to omit a couple of roads we still wanted to drive but most likely same were closed anyway so we turned into the H5 and detected a Wahlberg in a tree.
From time to time the rain even stopped in alternation with slight rain so we were confident that at least no more torrential rain might come along. The Bume causeway even was far easier to cross than yesterday the water level meanwhile already decreased and not far we met another car out of which the driver told us about a leopard who just had crossed the street. They continued their drive and wished us luck and this time we even had luck as a beautiful leopard lady appeared suddenly at the only part along that road which was visible as the other parts were completely overgrown and the bushes far too dense.
She started to sniff on a branch and even paw on the ground and we were again over the moon with her presence
finally she even turned around and started to repeat the sniffing and pawing
and after a far too short time she walked out of sight but what a gift, nice and unexpected and this time I was also Timon thankful because he always insists to wait a while when we heard about a just crossed leopard because I am in that point always a bit too pessimistic.

Re: A cat or a lifer a day keep the doctor away
Not far we discovered a colourful crested barbet with something in its bill
which same presented always proudly
and on whilst standing on our beloved Biyamiti causeway I pointed a fish eagle on the ground with a just caught fish to Timon
and same had just started with the feeding on same.
From time to time same even looked around
and also must have heard the click sound from the camera
As already mentioned the fish eagle had to work hard to get the best bites
and luckily for us we only had to leave the bridge shortly once to let another car pass so we had again the pole position at that sighting which far too soon for our liking ended as the fish eagle took off and flew away with the rest of its fish.
After a short stop in camp we returned onto the S139 as it was still too early to spend the rest of the morning in camp and we also wanted to pay a final visit to Biyamiti weir and also the rain meanwhile stopped completely. We stopped for an interesting looking raptor but only got a headless shot of same -
a crowned eagle which was a lifer for us – At least we got a glimpse of same but same finally flew away and we never saw it again.
to be continued……..

The fish-eagle feeding behaviour is well captured, they always look around between the next bit of feeding

What unique shots all round, Pumbaa!
A great reward with difficult weather and patience!
The fish eagle is amazing, eating a barbel. And thank you especially for the crowned eagle, an almost unheard of location!
