This is often a highly rated road.
But it's a bit of a mixed bag in my experience. The stretch along the Sand River (Skukuza end) can be quite productive.
But haven't had an exceptional sightings along this route in a long time.

Leeupan is always worth stopping at. In wet years it is excellent for water birds.
The many damaged trees in the area indicate this is a popular place for elephants.

This is actually quite a varied road regarding landscapes, as it passes through four distinct ecotypes, as they say, which are a bit intermingled sometimes! \O

Hence the wide variety of game that can be found, including all big 5, all other predators, and sable antelope. :-0

In the south it follows the riverine vegetation of the Sabie and Sand rivers.

Then it has a looong stretch of mixed combretum woodland on granitic soil:

It passes patches of Delagoa Thornveld, a strip that runs right down the axis of the Park from Timbavati to Crocodile Bridge.

And finally it just just enters the eastern Basaltic savannah of Tshokwane, with sweet grassland popular with grazers!

September 2019
We spotted this youngish female leopard with her cub right next to the road on the way from Skukuza, about 5km from Tshokwane Picnic spot.
The mother had a cloudy right eye. I wonder if anyone has seen her since?
