Mel wrote: Mon Dec 20, 2021 5:13 pm The lions kinda don't look too comfortable in the water lol
Yes the one female seemed to be the one to get them to cross over they even stopped to wait for one at one stage to join them .

We turned down the S28 towards Croc Bridge

Along the road we found a very skittish herd of Impala but could not see what they were spooked about .

Image

We found a Vulture tree
Image

A vehicle signaled to us as we passed and let us know closer to Crock Bridge there were some Lions .We carried on and found them with another car watching .It turned out to be two Lionesses with Cubs .They were level with the road but on the opposite side of a gully so quite far off and at max zoom on the camera .

Image

Both Lionesses were feeding their cubs .
Image

Image

at one stage a warthog crossed the road and walked down the gully and the Lioness spotted it and went into stalking mode but then eventually it gave up when it was spotted .
Image

It was very Cute as the cub also went to copy mom .
Image

I will put up a video of them with the next episode .We carried on and found a traffic jam at Gezantombi Dam Bridge .I was tired and we wanted to get to Marloth to get unpacked so we threaded through the Jam and took a quick pick on the way past of a flat spotted cat on the Dam wall .
Image

A fish Eagle was on the opposite side of the Bridge as well .
Image

We left the park and headed to Marloth for the evening .
Image

Originally the plan was to spend the next day at Marloth resting but we decided what the hell lets go back to the park the next day as it was our last day ...

We were not early to the gate in the morning and fully expected to have some delays getting in .But we drove right in .

We drove up to to Gomondwane loop without anything worthwhile seen .It was extreemly dry around crocodile bridge so not much game in the area . We found a fledgling Vulture
Image

Some Ellies were on a mission most likely to a water source
Image

Image

The crocks were were sunning themselves on the low level bridge by Lower Sabie
Image

We drove up to Sunset dam and found this lovely fellow
Image

The Crocks and birds were sunning themselves .
Image

SO took a pic of the King Fisher
Image

Image

We stopped in at Nkhulu to see the new shop and were pleasantly surprised at the shop setup. On leaving we found a local hanging around .
Image

And shortly after leaving we ran into a huge scrum traffic jam .A single Lioness was walking in the road with many vehicles following
Image

She took care of some business lol :o0ps:

Image

And carried on .Normally we would do a U turn and leave the scrum but we wanted to get to the H12 bridge to go back down the S30 so joined the fun and Games .

Image

it soon became apparent she was on the hunt sweeping both sides of the road even chasing some Giraffe across the road .
Image

Some of the cars were reversing the whole time 0-

We had managed to get to ssecond place in the scrum and as she took the chance to roll in some dung we took the opportunity to pass to try go ahead and cross the bridge .
Image

We turned on the bridge entrance and went to take some pics of her walking towards us .
We started to take some pics and a small group of Impala close to us relised what we were watching and ran across the road the Lioness sensed she was withing striking distance and took off .
Image

One of the group miscalculated and ran straight at the bush and had to stop and run around giving the Lioness enough chance to catch up. Image

Image

With a quick swat of the back legs she knocked it over
Image

and the hunt was over the scrum quickly formed around the Lion again so we left
Image

It had been an amazing sighting and luck that we repositioned just at the right time

We crossed over the bridge ...

I only ever saw a successful lion kill once. And that was pretty far off. So, this is quite exciting O\/

Love the leopard from the previous instalment too. Amazing how they are able to chill out like that with no care in the world.
(And as if they didn't have enemies either  )

Amazing leopard sighting, Roger \O

and what a great luck with that lion hunt sequence so close to the road and despite the many cars around O\/ O/\
