The proof is a photograph taken by a hunter - In this region the cat had been completely exterminated about 150 years ago.

On 22 July 2010, the reproduction of lynx in the Engadine was confirmed in the territory of Zernez (GR). This is proved by a photograph taken by a hunter. In this region the cat was completely exterminated about 150 years ago.

The Engadin hunter was able to observe first with the telescope, and then photograph late in the evening the mother lynx with her two kittens. According to today’s note from the Graubünden Hunting and Fishing Office, a sighting of young lynx had already been reported last year but could not be confirmed due to lack of evidence.

For at least three years a male lynx (B760) has been living constantly in the territory around Zernez. So far, the female and the cubs have not been identified. In the Lower Engadin, the lynx had disappeared around 1872, the note says.
