Note to Ex: Fantastic photography! Again, lots of dedication must have gone into getting those images
Note to myself: Dodge Costa Rica... they got scary little critters there.

There are some real weirdos in the world. There’s also a lot of strange insects.
This first one is somewhat confusing at first glance, but once you figure out what it is, it’s not anymore.

I’ve seen cicada exoskeletons, butI was surprised at the huge lobster-like front claws of these. Since cicadas spend the majority of their lives underground as nymphs, they need tools for burrowing and digging chambers and tunnels amongst the roots of trees, so it makes sense.

Not a very good photo, but the only “pretty” cockroach I’ve ever seen.

Somewhat blurry,

Beetle??

These are the masters of disguise. I THINK they may be called “Masked Hunters”, as they are sticky and cover themselves in the surrounding litter for camouflage.

There are two of them in this pic.

As my SO often says, “There are roughly 4 BILLION females on Earth, and I bet you’re the ONLY one who spends endless hours being entertained by bugs. How did I get so lucky?”
At least I’m not out shopping all day…..

Strange insects indeed. But fascinating looking at them through our lens. Not through mine. That would scare me.
