Re: New Nikon D800

Post by Peter Betts »

I have had a complete turn around regarding the Nikon D800. It goes up to ISO 6400 (Perfect) my D3S goes to 12800 (Not needed) The D800 is 36 m Pixels and has the highest/best dynamic Range of any DSLR ever built...Its up there with Hasselblad...capable of awesome landscapes asa result

I use a huge and heavy 500mm lens with the D3S because at 12 m pixels you cant really crop but with the D800 you can really heavily crop and get a pic with higher resolution anyway.

So after my December Kruger trip I will be selling the D3S and replacing it with the D800 and selling the 500 and replacing it with a 300 f2.8 and I can crop if I want more reach or a 1.4x convertor will get me up there...The profit I make will be invested in a Zeiss manual focus 21mm f2.8 lens for landscapes..Excited ...YES!!!

Good to hear you've had a change of mind, Peter.

I too am getting a D800 - next week! I intend on using it to complement my D3s - the D800 will do duty as a primary landscape camera as well as for more static and wider animal photos for large prints etc. The results from this camera across the board has been amazing and nobody wanted to give it the time of day when it was announced. -O
