Europe has passed a new law on
Orphaned works. In a nutshell, Any image that is found on the internet without metadata stating the images owner and copywrite or watermarked so that the owner can easily be identified and contacted are now considered orphaned works and thereby free to be used by anyone in any way they wish, including commercially.
Social media sites automatically strip your metadata from images (presumably so the images are smaller) however, this leaves them free for the taking unless strongly watermarked. Read more here.

Just leave your Exif data on pics and print © Peter Betts etc etc bottom right corner and you will be fine

The blog article above does not provide any serious information on the current status quo of european legislation on use of orphaned works!

By no means, "the law allows anybody, any corporation, any entity wanting to use ANY photo, for ANY reason, to use that photo without first getting permission from the photographer."

According to the European laws it is not allowed (at least, that is what they say here in the Netherlands). Everyone here is stating that they may not retrieve any of your photos without permission, because it are your pictures. Don't know how it actually is, will ask somewhere soon my brother in law, he knows this kind of stuff. Please remember me to react here again
