Lovely Super M! \O My parents used have one of those nesting logs and always had Barbets in the garden....think I must invest in one. ;-)

You must Flutterby, they entertain us all day long!

You can buy the logs from a garden nursery for around R55 to R75 depending on the size. We capped it with an old coffee can so it woun't rot from the rain. The whole must face South East. The log comes with only a shallow hole and the barbet does the rest, it only takes them a couple of days to excavate the whole nest.

Mr. Barbet excavated the whole nest too, this was taken 18 months ago at the first nesting log. Mrs. Barbet does not have to work around the house.
