For the first time ever we had an owl in our garden last night, but we could only hear it, not see it!! O/\ I've tried to ID the call, but can't find a match. -O-

So, what did it sound like?

I don't think there are many owls that occur in Jo'burg.
Hunting cannot be considered a sport as all contestants in a sport should know they are playing the game!

It sounded like either a Scops Owl or Southern Whitefaced Owl, but are either of these found in Jhb? :-?

While packing my car for the holidays, I heard a shreak sound from the garden and investigated.

It was a thick-billed weaver feeding a juvenile. The juv. was flapping it's wings and screaching hunger calls... :-0 :-0
