Asexual reproduction. A 62-year-old captive royal python (Python regius) – a species native to West and Central Africa - recently laid seven fertile eggs, despite having had no contact with a male for 15 years. Parthenogenesis, relatively common in reptiles, is a natural form of asexual reproduction in which embryo development occurs without fertilisation by sperm.
