Tanzania scraps visa for SA residents

Pretoria - Tanzania has scrapped its visa requirements for South Africans the Tanzanian high commission in South Africa announced on Monday.

The Mail & Guardian reports that the visa exemption applies to South Africans holding an ordinary passport who wish to visit the country for holiday, private or official business for a period of up to 90 days, as well as those in transit.

First secretary of the Tanzania high commission to South Africa, Habib Mohamed, said the decision was done on reciprocity purpose and that being a member of the Southern African Development Community, Tanzanians visiting South Africa are also exempted from visas for 90 days.

Tanzania high commissioner to South Africa, Radhia Msuya said this decision forms part of a bination commission that the two countries have embarked on. The commission has been tasked to work on economic issues, trade, diplomacy, tourism as well as social and political issues.
