Does anybody know any more details about this:

The incident happened three weeks ago outside the Phabeni gate and not inside the Kruger National Park.
The elephants were shot by the Mpumalanga Parks Board Rangers and any queries in regards to this should be directed to the MPB. SANParks was not involved.

So due to lack of any useful info, the "rumour mill" will start. --00--

Where they escapees from Kruger?
Must have been?

Were SANP contacted in an effort to move them back into Kruger??

Sorry I thought that given Sanparks confirmation that it had actually happened it was a fact but it is worrisome that once again the infamous MPB is involved!

Papers not interested in "old news"... :-)

It's actually called MTPA now...long time not Mpum. Parks Board! They are constantly bankrupt/striking/squabbling etc. ... But ja, it is their job to control problem animals outside the Park! \O

:-) :-) :-) :-)

this was taken from a facebook group...

"Have a few things on my mind tonight, Two Elephants were shot outside Phabeni gate either three or one week ago, depending whose story you read.
The official response via Lesego of Sanparks is that these Elephants were shot by Mpumalanga Game Rangers and had nothing to do with Sanparks as they were shot outside the Park. What utter crap.!!
These Elephants came from the Kruger and are, sorry were, now that they are dead, the responsibility of Kruger National Park. Stories are going around that they were killed for the meat to be given to local communities.
BUT, what has really has got me in the foulest mood ever is that on the Sanparks official forum the reply given was......" Now that we have an official reply from Lesego this topic will now be blocked". Whoope doo, lets forget about this, don't lets make waves, lets bury the entire bloody story, because Sanparks has spoken and....its wasn't them, so lets pass the buck again. This is four Elephants in the past three months. Dead. By Sanparks personnel."

I sent a pm to the Mod that locked the topic asking why the thread was closed so quickly.

Also posed a number of questions along the lines of:

If the elephants were from Kruger, why is it no longer a SANP issue and therefore not allowed to be discussed on the Forum?
What measures were taken to return the elephants to the game reserve before the decision was made to shoot them?
What was done with the carcases of the elephants after they were shot?

Will be interesting to see what her response is.
