EWT Roadkill Project

Post by Dewi »

Help the Endangered Wildlife Trust.

Hi Greenies,

The EWT are currently collecting data on road-killed wildlife in South Africa.

They are asking for help in recording roadkill data and have set up an app that you can use to report any roadkill that you come across on your travels.

Link to app.

http://www.prismsw.com/roadwatch/androi ... Africa.apk

Follow their instructions on how to upload data.

If you are like me, and have no mobile devices, you can report your sightings to the following e-mail address….

roads@ewt.org.za

with the location (preferably GPS co-ordinates), species seen and date.

For more information on this, please click on the link below.

http://endangeredwildlifetrust.wordpres ... th-africa/

Or visit the EWT website at..

https://www.ewt.org.za/

All data collected can be used in helping to conserve South Africa's wildlife for future generations, so please join in and show your support to the EWT.

Thanks, Deli!

Lots of members in Parks at this time, or soon to be! Not a pleasant project, but absolutely vital, I think!

Agreed RP. Not a pleasant thing, but a great way to evaluate the distribution of species in a given area and to see how traffic affects the mortality of certain species. The data can also be used to plan ahead for future road construction with underpasses or wildlife corridors built in etc. \O

Please note that the data is required for all SA roads, not just within parks etc. \O

The CARCASS Challenge will start on 1st March and end with the draw for the most submissions taking place in November. The EWT has a fantastic Hamper full of exciting EWT goodies for the person who collects the most data, with great prizes for second and third place.

If you go to the EWT site on the other link, you can access the download app link there. I'll see if I can fix the link here though. \O
