Some of these vultures are not found in South Africa other than in Sanctuaries.
There are peeps that bring them into the country as babies and if they manage to slip through customs, then they try and raise the birds as a pet.
When the bird is too big to keep or it falls ill, then rescue help is called in. By then some damage has been done to their flight feathers through wrong clipping, or their eyesight is poor and they cannot be realeased in the wild.

It is true Lis, that is why it is good to be made aware of the fact that these birds are a great part of our nature cycle.
