From the South African National Parks Strategic Plan 2016/17-2019/20:

No. 205 Construct Southern Tip Icon 11,107,000 rand (!)

From the Background Information Document of June 2012:

In order to compliment tourism objectives, SANParks has seen it important to highlight the significance of the region, and its most Southern location on the African continent. It has therefore proposed the construction of an iconic structure to formalize and orientate visitors to the southernmost point of Africa.

I have only been able to find one proposal for said "icon" and here it is:

My own suggestion would be to construct a short pier that SANParks management could all take a long walk off!

The museum should be interactive and highlight the interesting maritime stories of the area e.g. how ships came to be wrecked there - in one case, for example, a ship sank due to the sailors celebrating their captain’s birthday and everyone on board was too drunk to notice the impending rocks.

 Sounds good!

Wonder what it will cost? :O^

Good research, Puffie! X#X
