Lovely Puffie! How could it be to hot at that altitude The sun is actually dangerous in the mountains, even if the temperature of the air is not that high

Thank you, Flutterby!Flutterby wrote:Lovely purple flower!
That day it was still above freezing at the top of the highest mountains (3600 m) in the area.Richprins wrote:Doesn't look too warm, Puffie!
Too warm for us, anyway, specially after the cooler hikes we had had. And walking into the sun is no fun.Lisbeth wrote:How could it be to hot at that altitude?
We came up with a strategy for the next day, however, for the last hike of our trip...

Re: A Bit of Switzerland between Nan and Lis
So, we had come to our last hiking day and it was supposed to be quite warm and sunny again. What to do?
Plan a route up through the forest!
The Doldenhornhütte (http://www.doldenhornhuette.ch/) seemed to fit the bill nicely as a destination. Most of the hike up would be in the woods and, as a bonus, we could nourish ourselves before walking back down. A little over 700 vertical metres was all that stood between us and a Rösti (a type of potato pancake)!
Some four hours after starting up, we were there. A journalist was photographing the new Hüttenwartin during our visit, and we ended up in the Berner Oberländer (http://www.berneroberlaender.ch/region/ ... y/23724571), though it is very difficult to make my wife out in the photo (I am standing near the terrace wall).
Here is one of the views from the Hütte:
And here is a Rösti mit Käse:
After eating the above and washing it down with an Apfelschorle (apple juice and soda water), we began the descent, which took about three hours.
The next day was spent relaxing and packing, and the following day we left to come back home.
