Impala update. The driver of the car involved in the impala accident went straight to the Ranger's house to report himself and the circumstance. He was not speeding but the impala herd was spooked by hyenas and rushed into the road. He could not stop in time and ended up with the dead animals. The Ranger did return to the scene with the driver and has no reason to doubt his explanation. The advise is that accidents of this nature do occur but be extra vigilant because the bush is thick.

KNP staff rack up speeding fines over festive season

Updated Jan. 29, 2020, 3:43 p.m. | By Lulutho Mkosi

South African National Parks (SANParks) has revealed that more than half of the speeding fines in the Kruger National Park over the festive season were issued to its own staff members.

The fines were issued between December 15 to January 5.

The speed limit at the park remains at 50 km/h on tarred roads and 40 km/h on gravel roads.

SANParks spokesperson Ike Phaahla says the park has adapted a zero-tolerance attitude to speeding.

“We had quite a high number of speeding fines that were issued to tourists who were visiting and half of those were again staff members.”

Disciplinary action will be taken for implicated staff members.

“Our staff members who were also given those fines, they are also going to face disciplinary action,” Phaahla says.

Why
Because if contractors and delivery vehicles are not counted as staff they will account for most of the rest... ;-)
