Re: Riverbed cycle challenge in Kgalagadi

Just got back from 3 weeks in the KTP… and although none of the rangers I spoke to knew for sure… the consensus is they’ve heard the Kalahari event has been cancelled… and ‘moved’ somewhere else.

Re: Riverbed cycle challenge in Kgalagadi

agree 100%. Would also rather that the event were not taking place at all. I am unshaken in the belief that a path of commercialisation is the road to hell... but I'd rather save my bullets for targets that can be brought down, and the credibility of my challenges for fights that can be won ...

Re: Riverbed cycle challenge in Kgalagadi

It also has to be noted that the zoning in the current Park Management Plan for Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park has made provision for activities of this nature. The zonation along the riverbed is zoned for low to medium intensity motorized access. In addition to this properly controlled tourism ...

Re: Riverbed cycle challenge in Kgalagadi

Re: Riverbed cycle challenge in Kgalagadi

the following is the text of an official letter sent to a potential sponsor of scientific research, which required no more than that flyers would be handed out to visitors asking them to log positions of predator sightings (as was done last year for cheetahs), It involved NO additional impacts ...

Re: Riverbed cycle challenge in Kgalagadi

Some very harsh things have been said about the honorary rangers... and with merit. However, it's not so much the HR's themselves who are an enemy, but their leadership who are letting them down badly. We are beginning to get a picture that MANY HR's are not in favour of the event. More than that ...

My name is wolf and silvia has asked me to post some of my replies from this same thread on the SANparks site. apparently some of you are such social savages that you have had to be banned from the SANparks forums. In particular there are 2 posts that summarise the situation ...
