Re: Never say never....
Those were only the spoor. What looks like a lion is a very nice lion-log. =O: It's only my second ever visit in 18 years that I didn't see lions. We knew where they were, we just never saw them. The females at the t-crossing close to Satara have cubs even! They were seen only days after we were the...

Re: Never say never....
Your er-raptor - might be a lesser spotted eagle. :-? We wish it was a Lesser Spotted Eagle, Mel! Pretty sure it's a Wahlberg's. There is no place like Kgalagadi, Nan. Forever cured me of my KNP addiction. Most people want to move to Phalaborwa, Hoedspruit or Nelspruit. Us? Anything to the west of ...

Re: Never say never....
At the end of our trip report, we're looking back on a short but great trip. We didn't get lions or leopards, but saw more than enough to make it worthwhile. O/\ Our next trip report will come after our Augrabies/Kgalagadi trip in January 2015. THE best place on earth - the Northern Cape and the Kal...

Re: Never say never....
Hello passed on Duke! O/\ So the last part of our short trip. Since we were staying with friends in Hoedspruit, we did a last drive towards Talamati, Satara and out. A very special one just outside Tamboti - duiker in the open: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/s/vhlp9uj82655fpf/IMG_5205.jpg? White-...

Re: Never say never....
I guess that's why guests were driving to the bathrooms with their cars. =O: We've honestly never been bothered. I remember seeing the iffy back gate at Shingwedzi for the first time and thinking....Eh...what's that going to keep from coming into the camp? 0*\ Or Kalahari Tented Camp! You park your ...

Re: Never say never....
=O: @ Flutterby!! It's an old habit. Never able to resist doing it. When we camp we always choose the spot furthest away from the bathrooms, preferably no powerpoint, and take the scenic route to the toilet. Oaky, Duco has to go with in the middle of the night and you do run the risk of almost wetti...

Re: Never say never....
The caracal was pure luck. I simply happened to look its way as it pounced/jumped across the road. It was a movement totally unlike any animal I'd ever seen, especially for an animal of that coloring and size. That was enough to move closer VERY slowly. We were extremely lucky to have it sitting sti...
