I received this fantastic book for Xmas.
The Amaryllidaceae of Southern Africa by Duncan, Jeppe, Voigt
A fantastic account of this group of bulbs in SA
There is some general info at the beginning of the book.
And then there is a species by species entry with detailed info, a map, and a painting of each plant.
I believe it wasn't cheap, but well worth it.

Re: The Amaryllidaceae of Southern Africa
Apart from the Hippeastrum sp. (a personal dislike for some reason), they are very pretty

I had quite a few of them (Crinums, Haemanthus etc) in my greenhouse at one point, but one year around mid Feb (the coldest and worst possible time) the heater failed and I lost most.

Re: The Amaryllidaceae of Southern Africa
I was really upset, but what could I do.
I have a greenhouse full of all sorts of tropical plants (cacti, ferns, bulbs etc). There is a heater set @ 5*C min. It's plugged into a special outdoors type socket.
Unfortunately on this occasion I had a busy week and only managed to get to check on things on the weekends. Part of the plug itself shorted and I only discovered it a few days after it probably happened.

About 100.
Tropical stuff that was struggling at 5*C as it is, probably needing a few *C higher to be really happy.
Grown from seed and some over 15 years old.
