A rounded, gnarled shrub to 5 m tall
Fire survival: Killed, only seeds survive
Sexual system: Both sexes in each flower
Flowers: All year round, peaking July - December
Pollinator: Bird
Fruit: Released 2-6 months after flowering
Seed dispersal: Ants
Seed storage: Underground in ants nests
Rarity status: Not threatened
Habitat: Sandy soils, 0 -1100 m. Peninsula Sandstone Fynbos.
Distribution: A Cape Peninsula endemic, from Table Mountain in the north to Cape Point.

An erect shrub to 2.5 m tall,distinctive with its red and yellow heads comprising conspicuous "tubes" of flowers.
Fire survival: Killed, only seeds survive
Sexual system: Both sexes in each flower
Flowers: May - November
Pollinator: Bird
Fruit: Released 2 months after flowering
Seed dispersal: Ants
Seed storage: Underground in ants nests
Rarity status: Vulnerable due to Cape Town and coastal resourts
Habitat: Sandy swamps and vlei edges, 0 - 400m.
Distribution: Peninsula and Betty's Bay to Elim, confined on the Peninsula to Silvermine and the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve.
