"....... for the benefit of smokers of their products.......

Post by leachy »

:-) :-) :-) :-)

while visiting my brother who lives in johannesburg recently he unearthed a book that belonged to his mother (he is my brother from a different mother and father :-? :-? )

this book was published in 1940 - according to the forward by Colonel James Stevenson-Hamilton, who was also the editor.

in the olden days people used to collect "cigarette picture cards" that were in the cigarette packs,

and then buy the book that was relevant to the subject of the cards being collected and paste the cards into the books

the subjects were varied and plentiful ranging from wildlife to fauna and flora to motor cars and sailing ships

although the title of this book is "Our South African National Parks"

it deals mainly with the kruger, as mentioned in the forward.

enjoy reading the book and seeing all the wonderful animals

The tobacco companies have always been very clever publicizing their product and this is indeed very special. For this one I am going to forgive them as they did not know what we know today.

A great treasure from the past, leachy \O

The Park should have been called "The Stevenson-Hamilton National Park" O** ( He would be turning around in his grave if he could see what is happening today 0*\ ) It was only by coincidence that Mr. Kruger was the president of SA.
