Endangered Wildlife Trust added 10 new photos.

The EWT is extremely excited about the latest development in our quest to expand the range of African Wild Dogs. We will soon be reintroducing these iconic animals into the northern part of the Kruger National Park! Northern Kruger has experienced a substantial decline in Wild Dogs over the past 20 years, so this is a momentous step for us. The first phase of the move took place earlier this week, when four female Wild Dogs from Hluhluwe iMfolozi Park were captured and placed in a boma in preparation for their journey. They will remain safely in the boma until they are ready to be driven to Shingwedzi. Only 250 African wild dogs left in Kruger National Park

The African wild dog, Lycaon pictus, or painted dog, is the second most endangered carnivore in Africa, after the Ethiopian wolf.

MBOMBELA – “It is also the most endangered carnivore in South Africa,” said Grant Beverley. He gave a Saving Kruger’s Wild Dogs presentation at Trappers Trading in Mbombela last Tuesday.

It's quite amazing to think there are so few left, but we've still had great WD sightings! Very lucky!

I presume (Only my impression) that they prefer open bush rather than the fitter one of the north?............and the impalas also

It has always been a guess of around 250 in Kruger? So Good/normal news/

Not "always" Only lately.

Whooh, no, Lis! Fluctuated a lot over the last 50 years, but always came back to that "worst case" figure, or lower. It was 350 for a while, but over 10 years ago? The first photo/tourist thing worked best!
Generally one has to take into account other predators' increase, I think, same with cheetah, as lion and hyena mess the system up should they get too many. So the drought, elephant carcasses and rhino carcasses should also play a factor?
