SHASHANGA

Characteristics
Left ear: a notch at the centre of the earlobe and a v-shaped notch at the bottom. Right ear: several notches. Has only one tusk (left) curved in a classic way.

Shashanga Tusker Kruger National Park

On 23rd October 2014, we were travelling from Punda to Shingwedzi, on the H1-7, when we came onto this guy grazing next to the road. He only had one large, left tusk as you can see.

Characteristics
Right ear: Very fine notches.
Left ear: Very fine notches and a small hole near the center.
Both tusks almost equal in length.

Shipene Tusker of Kruger National Park

On 20th October 2014, we saw this lot at Boyela waterhole, south of Babalala.

Another named one I have seen is SHIPENE. He is not a large bull but his tusks are beautiful and thick and long for his statue and age.

Before I show his picture, this was the situation at Boyala Waterhole (between Shingwedzi and Babalala)
We counted 28 bulls all close to this waterhole and most of the time you could not see the waterhole at all...completely surrounded by bulls... with 2 , one and even without tusks. Shipene is the one with the big tusks in the middle of the photo

Shipene is still relative young and his tusks are very very promising. I think he will be one of the bigger ones in near future.

Characteristics
Right ear: two wider notches at the top.
Left ear: bigger notchon top and at the lower part, and many very small notches.
Both tusks almost equal in length, both curved inward.

Characteristics
Right ear, small hole near the center. Left ear, 3 wide notches and 3 holes, two at the lower part and one near the center of the ear.
Right tusks pointing upwards, left tusk more straight.

Characteristics
Right tusk, no left tusk.
Left ear: small notch at the bottum of the earlobe and a bigger notch just under the center of the ear with a little piece of loose skin. Right ear: small notch at
the bottum of the earlobe.
