leachy wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 9:16 am is there not a possibility that no.2 is a wahlberg's eagle.......
it has a longer gape and brown eyes which the tawny does not have
and the wahlberg's are "back in town" so to say....
Lisbeth wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 11:19 am Could be -O- The gape is actually very long \O
Dindingwe wrote: Fri Nov 02, 2018 3:41 pm I am not sure the gape of a Wahlberg is longer than that of a Tawny. The longer gape is the Steppe Eagle's.
I don't think it is a Wahlberg, which is smaller and with a weaker bill than the Tawny. The bird pictured seems not robust enough to me to be a Wahlberg.

A sequence by Amoli in 2014:

Amoli wrote: Thu Oct 23, 2014 5:45 pm Food chains – continued….

I was travelling to Tshokwane when I saw an animal on the side of the road. I idled a bit nearer and saw it was a tawny on a dead impala.

It did seem as if this was a road kill, and a fresh one at that.

Another car passed and the eagle flew up to the tree and joined the bateleur.
I waited around for half an hour, but there was a constant flow of one-one vehicle and they wouldn’t come down.

My pic of the impala is not clear – I felt a bit uneasy with irresponsible drivers.

On my return, the impala was no longer there. It must’ve been removed by park officials.

This chain of food was broken.

Just down the road was a tawny being pestered by a fork-tailed drongo. I spent some time admiring this eagle’s patience.

Is there anything like a premature birth / laying eggs with birds too?
Aka, when being scared to death while being caught… Or was the fowl just eaten up around the egg, so to speak. :-?

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.
