MBOMBELA: Earlier today, SANParks confirmed that no guests were able to enter or exit the Kruger National Park through Numbi Gate.

According to SANParks media specialist, Isaac Phaahla, the matter has now been resolved.

The delays were caused by the community adjacent to the Kruger National Park, who embarked on a strike this morning.

The exact cause of the protest is unknown. Phaahla said that guests can now enter and exit the Kruger National Park through the Numbi Gate as usual.

In order to be legal, does a strike not have to be notified? Therefore or the strike was not legal or the cause of the strike was known -O-

It's not really a strike - more a protest! ;-)

Don't you have to announce those too?

 normally only announcement is burning tyres across the road and boulders .Its becoming quite a normal road marking across South Africa on our trip up to Kruger we must pass at least 15 spots on the road with round circular burn markings on the road 0*\ O**

It has become a new fashion. Protests right away and not a protest with banners and phrases painted on signs, whistles and slogans, but burning tires and cars, breaking windows and everything that comes your way, devastating shops and homes along the way. It is not a protest without vandalism 0*\ 0=

And the fires on the tar damage the surface badly, so potholes begin.

Protest shuts access to Kruger park from Numbi gate

BY IAVAN PIJOOS - 08 January 2019

A fresh round of protest action by communities around the Kruger National Park on Monday shut down access to the reserve from the Numbi gate‚ authorities confirmed.

SANParks confirmed the gate was closed for several hours from early Monday to about lunchtime.

SANParks spokesperson Isaac Phaahla said it was believed the protest was aimed at local government and the Nkambeni Safari Camp.

Nkambeni is situated just outside Numbi gate.

“From what we have gathered‚ the protesters claimed that the camp [Nkambeni] is not hiring people from the local community.

“It is basically about unemployment and about service delivery.

“We feature nowhere in those things. I don’t know why they inconvenience us.”

Nkambeni could not immediately comment.

The Numbi gate has been affected by service-delivery related protests multiple times in the past year‚ sparking concern from tour operators bringing tourists to the area.

The R538 access to the Numbi gate is regarded as one of the best because its higher altitude gives a sweeping vista over the lowveld to the east and the granite foothills to the north and south‚ according to the SANParks website.

It is also historic – the first guests at Kruger National Park arrived in 1926 through Numbi gate. - TimesLIVE

Well, maybe they should realise that burning tyres and throwing rocks is NOT a skill set needed in the tourism industry 0*\
