Which is your Favourite Park, and Why?

Post by Expat »

Have not been to all that many parks, when I read the list on the index page, and that makes me wonder which are the best? I suppose it all depends on what you are looking for. :-?

I love Kgalagadi because of the quietness (we always go out of holiday season), the scenery - which really tugs at my heart - the huge skies where you can touch the stars at night, wonderful storms, amazing sightings and, in general, the friendliness of the folk one meets. It isn't 'commercialised' as such, with just basic necessities.

Now I wait ............ 0()

Kgalagadi for me was not the tops! Maybe because we did not have great sighting and then the landscape was not of my favourite kind ;-) I did like Urikaruus though as a contrast to Nossob, that I did not like at all. Maybe also because we had an accomodation which was absolutely awfull and then I prefer something more green....like Kruger. I loved Addo too! Maybe because I love elephants ;-)

O/\ Kruger is my favourite cause of the diversity of animals and trees. It is also the reason why I settled close by.

At this stage I have to say Kruger due to the fact that the gate is only 5Km's from my house. I am not sure how long it will stay my favourite though. The current under cover plans of SANParks top management are going to destroy Kruger if something is not done soon to stop them. O/

Kruger is my favourite \O , Camps like Shingwedzi, Letaba and Satara makes it spacial. \O \O
At Shingwedzi you can relax and enjoy nature, Letaba you have more or less the same but with more animals, at Satara you have the BIG 5 and lots of roads to explore \O

I would like to go to KTP and Ethosha \O

So far, Kruger is winning by a long way  I am surprised, as I found it very commercialised and there were actually traffic cameras! I get those at home - give me wide open spaces and, at the most, five cars making a traffic jam, which annoys me!

Each to his own, and I am looking forward to more views. Can we include the Bots and Zim parks in this? Mana-Mana Pools were the most exciting I have ever been in - 20 years ago! O:V

I enjoyed Tembe because most of the time you only saw one, maybe two other cars the whole time you were out of camp.

KTP was good for the wide open spaces and vistas.

The North of Kruger is fabulous with little traffic to disturb you.

They all have for and against points.

Hard to choose which is my favourite. But I've not been to many others, so cannot comment further.

Hi Expat,

I think I have been to all larger reserves in SA, Namibia and Botswana and have visited also some other reserves throughout Southern Africa.

And guess what: Kruger is not my favourite one, because of the overcrowding in the southern and central areas. Nevertheless I do visit Kruger sometimes and stay somewhere in the North.

I like the Kgalagadi TFP, the Richtersveld NP, the Tankwa Karoo, Mapungubwe, Hluhluwe Imfolozi (might be my favourite big five reserve in SA), Tembe in SA and I love Etosha and the Caprivi reserves in Namibia, sometimes I feel I have to go for a really remote place and this place might be Khaudom NP or the Central Kalahari GR.

I think my favourites are
South Luangwa \O
Etosha \O
Chobe \O
Mana Pools \O
