Flavour of the Month – March 2015 – Shabeni Hill
Shabeni Hill and the loop around it from S7 onto S10 and then back to S7 is one of my favourite little drives in Kruger.
What’s not to like about it? It has great views, is easily accessible, never too busy, often cooler in the heat of summer and it makes you feel young. Ok some may say that Sourveld doesn’t offer the best game viewing. I’d agree maybe not the quantity of say the area near Satara but some great sightings nevertheless. I’ll share some of mine, a few little snippets of information and why I find this drive so much fun in a wee while.
Before then do you have 15 minutes to spare? It is late afternoon one day in early summer. I’ve cleared all the camera equipment, fruit and snacks, water bottle and other Kruger stuff off the front seat next to me. If you like we’ll go for a short drive. Get in, sit back and relax. All settled? Here we go!
Shabeni Hill
(Remember to set the view to theatre or even better full screen).

A lone male chillin' by S7
Blue skies are less common around Shabeni. One would have been nice for this beauty.

Great, Seiont!
Predators seem to love that hill every so often...a pack of wild dog hung around there for a long while a year or two ago, presumably denning!
