Flavour of the Month March 2012: Bangu Windmill

North to Balule, South to Satara.
Two troughs and a reservoir...
Note the water in the stream that diverts animals away a bit these days...

- Nigel Dennis - 'Where to Watch Game in the Kruger National Park'Very good viewing is likely along the S90 up to and sometimes a little beyond Bangu Windmill. In the dry season, Bangu is a great magnet for sizeable herds of zebra and wildebeest. The animals tend to loiter in this area, even after drinking, so huge numbers may accumulate. When there are no zebra or wildebeest present it is very likely that lion are in the vicinity, so it is worthwhile to scan the surrounding area.

I've rated it as my favourite windmill over the years, repeatedly!
A bit of shade, solitude, and a wide variety of species on offer, also regular kills in the immediate vicinity!
The wet cycle has led to a bit of a drop in concentration of game there over the last 5 years or so, though, as the stream nearby flows for much of the year!

We had a lovely encounter there in the dry season a decade and a half or so ago!
The cheetah was lying in the shade to the West of the road...it was hot!

Then he/she went for a drink...

The zebra chased it directly toward us...would have made a stunning pic...but tricky in the pre-digital age!
