Johannesburg - SA National Parks (SANParks) has suspended its head of conservation services Hector Magome, it said on Tuesday.
“We can confirm that SANPark's managing executive... has been put on precautionary suspension,” spokesman Reynold Thakhuli said.
He declined to give further details, saying the matter was “not for public consumption”.
Thakhuli did, however, confirm that the contract of Pathfinder, a company involved in the collection of rhino poaching information, had been terminated.
“Pathfinder’s contract has been terminated and as an organisation we are not compelled to give reasons for termination of this contract as it is a matter between client and service provider,” he said.
Beeld reported that the company's contract was valid until February 2016.
The Afrikaans daily reported there was infighting at SANParks, which Thakhuli denied.
“We are not aware of any infighting and we would like to refute these claims in the strongest terms,” he said.

This is big, and obviously a matter for "public consumption"?
Who owns SANParks, Rey...the public?

Re: Shake up in Sanparks staff
Dear Forumites,
Following the media article titled 'Big heads roll at SANParks' and the apparent Chaos reigning in SANParks, we can confirm that the Managing Executive: Conservation Services has been put on precautionary suspension. We are not at liberty to disclose the details of the suspension as it is a matter between the employer and employee.
With regards to a report that the head of Legal Services “packed up and left” yesterday, this is far from the truth. The organisation served Mr. Nyembe with an intention to suspend him from work and a formal presentation is awaited from him. He has not been suspended or resigned from SANParks.
Lastly an insinuation that there are in-fights and chaos is reigning within SANParks are not true. SANParks is in a healthy state and it is business as usual.
Best regards,
Reynold "Rey" Thakhuli

Re: Shake up in Sanparks staff
News today...unfortunately not on Lowvelder site:
SP gave some sort of release saying all discussion about the two leaving was private business...blah blah...
"Lowvelder was confidentially informed that the Board had questioned the authority to allow the sale of white rhino - a process SANParks had been undertaking for years to generate an income"
"Both suspensions have sparked rumours that it was an attempt to get rid of Mabunda loyalists" (Edited)
