Lovely again, Pumbaa! ^Q^

Quite rare to be up early enough to catch the hippo coming back from the "office." \O \O \O

What a nice nyala study, especially the pink horn-bases! X#X

And osprey!

I like the dove shot!

Far too soon we already stood then on the Babalala picnic spot for a body break and there the always friendly attendant made us aware of a barn owl in a palm tree

Image

and that was already the second lifer that day! After taking a lot of pictures we thanked the attendant enthusiastically and said good bye. Due to the lack of sightings along the tar road we reached Shisha already quite early but there we stopped and got entertained by an elephant herd who just arrived there to quench their thirst.

Image

One of the mom’s showed us how to use her trunk

Image

Image

and spread around with water under the watchful eye of a more than cute calf

Image

Image

who look more than fascinated and impressed how she used her trunk.

Image

After a while the herd started to move off but lots of the females cared very much for the youngsters

Image

and such behaviour is always more than stunning to observe.

Image

We then decided spontaneously to drive up to Pafuri that day as we could not drag away ourselves and as it was still far too early to leave already – Okay here you will always find reasons why not to leave the park.....

On our far way to the far North we then stopped for another elephant bull with a set of impressive tusks

Image

and then it got quiet when it comes to sightings as in no time we already reached the highwater bridge across the Luvuvhu and the area before the bridge simply looked lovely

Image

as everything looked green and lots of ponds filled with water could be seen in the veld and on top the Luvuvhu was also flowing strongly

Image

and same carried a lot of red sand

Image

and although it looked like the end of the world and it is maybe the nearly end of Kruger but for me it is simply a beautiful area and bridge.

Image

While we watched around on the bridge we noticed quite a large number of white fronted bee eaters who just arrived

Image

and started to entertain us quite a lot – Funny was when nearly all of them used a small flexible branch as swing

Image

and the wind did the rest and sway them

Image

for sure they also started to catch bees and presented same to us

Image

and another nice sighting was a village indigo bird who joined the bee eaters.

Image

to be continued....
