I have been off the bus for awhile but back on now with a belated TT
Better late than never as the saying goes....
We left Cape Town on 2nd Sept with a stop over at Citrusdal.
The 3rd saw us making our way to Kgalagadi Lodge just outside the Park.
We camped in thick sand but the private ablutions for each site were very good.
It was my birthday so dinner was at the Lodge and I was spoilt with a chocolate cake big enough
for everyone in the dining room to have a piece
A very blurred sunrise - but we were on our way
We were a party of 10 in 4 vehicles (the Fortuner gang - the 4th car was waiting for us in the Park).
Time to reduce tyre pressure.
Booking in was quick and easy. We met our friends along the way and headed for Nossob where fuel was topped up
and water tanks filled up, then on to Polentswa. We set up camp and enjoyed the evening solitude (if that is possible with 10
of us ) Of the 10 we were the only ones who had ever camped without fences
These were the first little guys we saw. Playing or scrapping, whatever it was serious business.
Of course the sociable weavers were a big attraction for 2 of the group who were from Switzerland now living
here, but they had never seen these birds before.
This white (leucistic?) starling was at Tweerivieren. He was with normal starlings and they didn't sit still for long.
Braaiing was done and we were sitting around chatting when a lion roared. It sounded as if it was about 50M away.
Well everyone scattered to their tents. Dishes were thrown into the back of the trailers and locked away. Eventually
we calmed down and cautiously sat for a while - but wasn't long before bed called. The lions serenaded us throughout the night.
This was the beautiful sunset that ended the day.
Kgalagadi/Mabuasehube with Pooky and gang.

How wonderful! A travel tale from the section of the park that I probably will never see with my own eyes... unless I get that camping sorted in my mind
I don't think I have ever seen the striped mice getting into a fight
Leucistic starling
I'm definitely ready for more

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

5th Sept
Early to bed so up early. We looked out over the river and there were the culprits.
2 pairs of lion making their way to the waterhole. We followed suit.
This good looking fellow was the pretender but I don't think it would be too long before he became king.
This was the king and he was quite aggressive towards the pretender, but he did have a bit of a limp and looked
a bit old so I think his days were numbered.
We spent a good hour with them before they moved off to some shade.
Matching gemsbok!!
Back at camp for some brunch only to have company of another sort. This cape cobra spent the rest of the next 2 days
with us
to be continued....
