Thank you all for the fantastic feedback, comments and helping with Bird ID.

TUESDAY 1 OCTOBER 2013.

Joan and I went out on our own today as Pete and Margie had business to attend to in Pretoria.

On Hippo Loop we fortunate to see a yellow billed and two saddle billed storks sharing a feeding ground.

This pic gives a nice view overall view of Makorwane Dam and the balloon safari floating past .

This photo really made Pete mad. He had been saying ever since Friday that he wanted to see a kori bustard as the last time they had seen one was many many years ago.
What do we see on the corner of Moloto and Tou Drives?
Image

We had breakfast at Ruighoek Dam which was almost empty. Nothing to be seen so we mozied on.

On Kukama Drive we saw what we think is Amarula due to the size of the tusks. We think he was sleeping as he did not move so we could not get a better photo but we do know that he did not have a tail.
Image

At Lengau Dam we saw this black-backed jackal trotting along towards the water.
Image

He did go and drink as we thought he would but turned around and headed back from whence he came.
Image

Passing a wildebeest going down to drink.
Image

Back at Makorwane Hide we saw red hartebeest and tsessebe taking turns to come down and drink.
Image

I had not noticed this before but look what is walking in the background. Pete just for you.

On the way back to camp for lunch Joan got this colourful shot of a lilac-breasted roller.

By now I could feel little pangs of pain in my stomach - indigestion I thought - something to eat will get rid of it.

By the time we reached camp for lunch I was in agony and not very hungry. The tummy pains were now almost constant. After some questioning from Joan we discovered that I had a blockage. Our first aid kit did not cater for this type of problem but thank goodness Joan is a nurse. A little bit of homemade mooty and I went to go and lie down and given lots of water to drink. We missed our afternoon drive as I could not risk being far from the chalet. By 17:30 it was over and clear and I was feeling on top of the world again. Joans home made mooty worked well. Pete and Margie arrived back from their trip to Pretoria and we could not wait to show Pete the photo of the kori bustard.

NEXT: A beautiful sunrise and more birds.
