THURSDAY 3 OCTOBER 2013 - Part 3/3 - 17:15 to 17:45
We had just crossed the culvert when Joan shouted "LEOPARD". I immediately stopped but could not see any leopard. Joan tried to point him out to me. At first I could not see anything and then it suddenly came into focus. What a wonderful feeling.
PILANESBERG HAD LIVED UP TO ITS REPUTATION.
This was the first view we had.
As there were no other cars around we could manoeuvre the car until we got the best view of him. This was from our second position.
He then got up, turned around and lay down again. This was from our third position as there were still no other cars around.
It was now that a huge elephant crossed the road in front of us with a jeep jockey on the other side of him.
Once the elephant had crossed the road we expected the jeep jockey to come down and see what we were looking at. To our surprise he started doing a U-turn so I flashed my lights at him as he went off up towards Kgabo Drive. To his misfortune he did not see me flashing my lights. A car with four older folk in it pulled up next to us and asked what we were looking at. We tried to point out the leopard but we could see that they were not seeing it. They then pulled in behind us and they still could not see it. A big game viewing truck then pulled up behind them and they immediately saw the leopard. It was only now that the older folk saw the leopard and gave us the thumbs up.
Some more pics of the leopard.
It was such a privilege to have shared 30 minutes with this beautiful leopard.
Finally for today - sunset over the mountains.
NEXT: We decided to pay for an additional day and drive through the park from Manyane and leave at Bakubung.
