That roaring and that regal parade through the camp really took it out of him. No wonder he collapsed for the whole day.
I think unit 3 is a great unit to have. When a lion(don't know if it is the same one) visited one night, he also left the camp the same way, passing unit 3. And that leopard we heard,was skulking somewhere there as well.

Another interesting Grootkolk experience - We had an unexpected guest (who wanted to be resident) one lunchtime.

Eventually Oliver had to help it on its way. I think it was one of our most exciting hours we have spent at Grootkolk.

Sure Toko. We just made sure the door was completely closed(both halves) every time we entered and exited the unit after that. Eish! To think of the times we only closed the bottom half! Cobras are fantastic climbers and can climb anything!

We have not experienced something like that which is not a bad thing at all.

The one time when we arrived at Grootkolk, Franco told us to be careful as the day before there was a cape cobra under the steel housing that they have for the gas stove

While the sunsets can be spectacular, and the ambiance on a quiet evening unsurpassed, there are often visitors that approach in the twilight hours. Whether to quench their thirst after a long hot day, or to replenish their energy for the upcoming night prowl, a shadowy silhouette is both exhilarating and humbling.
