Chicks and a new SO on the catwalk (Oct 2013)*

The lions eventually moved off into the dunes to sleep off the day. We decided to stay in anyway as we were hoping for other critters to visit.
Well, no... Obviously everyone else knew that the lions were still hanging out close to the camp. We thought they had vanished for good, but
they returned in the afternoon:





Silly face!


And they acted the innocents.

And a scaly-feathered finch visited on our patio.



Later that night we had a wild cat visiting the waterhole. But it came and went in a hurry, so I don't really count it as an AWC sighting.

15/10/2013 Grootkolk

This would be our last full day at Grootkolk... As usual we got up with sunrise and settled on the patio to see who would be paying us a visit.
It didn't take long for us to notice the movement to the right of our unit. The lions were back again...





They were rather agitated though as daddy was calling from far off. So, they had a quick sip and moved swiftly back to where they had come from.
We were sure, we wouldn't see them again.

The birdlife started to pick up.

And a sociable weaver:

We then went out for a morning drive up north. On route a black korhaan mum with her chick.



But the chick was extremely rude and always ran from one tuft of grass to the next.

We also found some wild (aka outside any camp) and cute yellow mongoose chicks.

And a crowned plover.



It was a short drive and we were back in the camp by 11 am.

I focused on the chicks in the camp.
