Thank you all for the great advice - really appreciate it. I'm leaning towards going a week before the school holidays in October... so somewhere around 27th Sept for a week.

@Bushcraft - for that time of year what do you reckon about anti-malarials (both for yourself & the kids)?

After phoning around the camps a bit it seems that they'll be happy enough to push a 3 bed unit into a 4 bed unit if we bring along the blow-up bed etc. One very helpful lady at Berg said it was easiest to confirm which units could be bumped at each camp and then do the booking for 3 people at head office. Once done, phone around the camps in turn getting it amended to 4 people.

So I guess the next plan is to figure out which camps to aim for that week depending on availability. \O

PJL , en September is always good , dry coolish weather . animals congregating around water , and so on . Beginning October still the same , especially if it has not rained yet , but , even better , because camp gates open 30 minutes earlier \O

If it was me, the kids would take, but the SO and I wouldn't.

Rather be safe then sorry though \O

I arrive in KNP on the 4th of October, so may see you leaving ;-)

Which camp are you heading to on 4th?

One other question - are the swimming pools at the camps warm enough to swim in at that time of year? I know down here in PE it would be chilly to say the least! ;-)

PJL, in October the temps can reach 40 and over so the pools are a welcome relief \O \O ...sometimes the water can even be too warm! O** We sometimes jump in in our clothes before going on a drive and let them dry in the car! ;-)
