African Pied Wagtail Motacilla aguimp
Identification
20 cm; sexes similar. Boldly pied plumage diagnostic. Tail longish, wagged up and down; upperparts and breastband black; eyebrow, neck patch, wingstripe, outer tail feathers and underparts white.
In breeding plumage, female’s back duller than pitch black of male. In non-breeding plumage, male’s back duller, contrasting with black head, and female's upperparts dark olive-grey.
Juvenile: Paler grey-brown version of adult, with whiter wings than both juv Cape and ad Mountain wagtails.
