Lately I spend most weekends at Grietjie Private Reserve. It is located about 20Km from Phalaborwa and is home to the Big 5.
It is a residential reserve and forms part of the Balule Reserve on the Banks of the Olifants River. There are a few lodges there and you can only enter if you have a booking, appointment or if you own or are visiting a property owner.
You are recommended not to walk around but you can at your own risk. We often walk down at the river and enjoy a coffee on the banks of the river at sunrise. We hear the lions, hyenas and jackal almost evry night. Game viewing is also done from the stoep, as there are two water holes close to the house and we watch animals come and go all day. We do night drives when ever we feel like it, but most times we just enjoy the wildlife around the house.
I will post a few photos soon. Watch this space...

There are all sorts here. This was a Boomslang that we rescued from an empty concrete farm dam. It got very aggresive, but we released it a few hundred metres from the house.

Fantastic! We get to see something different to the National Parks again. And great photo!
What's your connection to the place, Sprocky? I don't assume you spend your nights there with the place being so close to home.

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.
