Palm-nut Vulture
Palm-nut Vulture
Re: Vultures - Bird of the Month January 2015
The monotypic palmnut vulture is rather a "sea eagle" or "vulturine fish eagle" than a vulture. It is one of the few frugivorous Accipitridae species, eating palm fruits, and occasionally fish, crabs, snails, and other small animals. Behavioral and morphological traits, such as rounding of the underside of the talons, suggest a relationship between the sea eagles and the palmnut vulture.
