Depending on what you want and who you ask, Alf.
The winter months can be VERY cold with experienced temperatures of -12°C at night. Frozen pipes are a known occurrence.
I've never been there during those months as it is our summer and I'm not prepared to swap the few months without too cold
spells against possible winter temperatures. But what I've seen from photos, the sightings must still be good even
if the unlucky tourists claim that the animals are hiding in the dunes to keep warm.
Spring is usually pleasant and the animals can be found at the waterholes after the long dry winter. The vegetation is sparse
and this has put off people before. Yet, movement is easily detected and even if the animal is far off to start with, we've often
experienced them to come closer. Having said spring is usually pleasant, I must also add that we had days with temperatures
well above the 40°C mark! And on the other hand we woke up to 3°C in the morning.
Summer can be VERY hot and humid as well since rain is a normal occurrence. But in late November and early December
as well as in January and early February it's easier to find accommodation compared to the rest of the year (it's never
really easy in KTP...)
Fall is variable after all what I have seen of it. We had LOTS of rain this time, but even if it's an average season, you will
have to expect some rain. And depending on that the sightings can vary a lot. This time it was mostly far off encounters
and at other times we had brilliant experiences with any kind of critters right next to the car.
And in general it's like anywhere: right place, right time or maybe not.
If this hasn't answered your question sufficiently, go and ask more, please. Or if you want other info as well.

Rather impressive to see such a lot of water in a so called river bed usually without a drop a water

Exactly, nan!
And a leopard sighting elsewhere
There wasn't much... since there was water, water everywhere.
