Not much traffic on the secondary roads

That's a very long bridge, but 1'152Km is exaggerated methinks

Hi Lisbeth. That is why I like travelling on them - one can stop anywhere and smell the roses.

I also thought that 1.152kms was exaggerated but I measured it as I started on it and my odometer read 1.2kms.

I have always written lengths as 1.50 kms or 3.75 metres.

Always used a point not a comma.

Maybe Europe is different to South Africa.

04 MAY 2015 - DAY 19 - RAPTOR RIDGE TO VENTERSBURG - ONS KUIERHUIS - PART 2/4


From Smithfield the R701 is gravel road for 90 kms to Wepener.

The sheer quietness on this stretch of road due to lack of traffic was music to the ears.





Near Wepener we came across the Knellpoort Dam but the lovely light on the poplar trees and bull rushes was stunning.



Just one of the many examples of road disrepair one encounters in the Free State.



We eventually arrived at our guest farm about 14 kms outside Ventersburg and were greeted with tea and milk tart - farm style.

Joan went for a walk around the farm dam accompanied by the farms two dogs.
