From Berg to bush in March 2015 part one Golden Gate* NP

we saw little grebe, common moorhen, red-knobbed coot and another lifer reed cormorant

on the way back we stopped in Glen Reenen to go on one of the hikes. We started and climbed the stairs but as you could see that the hikes were going further up and it seemed to be an ordeal to carry the heavy camera all the way, we turned around.

Another bird on my wish list was the ground woodpecker. As I knew it had been seen in camp, I wanted to go around and have a look but only residents may enter the camp. Nonetheless we took a short break on the bench behind reception and saw more bearded vultures

Then we went on the Blesbok loop

we saw pretty flowers



and curious birds

from Zuluhoek lookout point you can see Langtoon Dam where we saw another lifer, yellow-billed duck



we returned to the chalet at about 2:30 pm and saw this little grasshopper near the parking lot

from the stoep we could watch birds like this mountain wheatear



and mountain reedbuck



we finished the evening with another braai and today we had a fire as well while we were watching another thunderstorm.

we missed the ground woodpecker, nan. I think we will have to return to find it.

Sensational, that bearded vulture on Langeoog! But why do you go to Golden Gate to see them then?

The scenery is just stunning! Particularly that Blesbok Loop shot.

And after that weekend at the Baltic Sea, I don't believe in clouds in the north anymore.
The rest of the republic was suffering of much worse weather than we did up there, it seems.

Btw, I looked into Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand for next year... Don't think that's going to happen... Those places seem a
bit posh.

the weather was much better than the day before but it was still cold

the reedbucks were back



but they left when our neighbours went on the hike

we had breakfast and packed.

Today there was a butterfly at the parking lot of the hide



and another lovely flower
