Some info please

Post by judik »

You guys were so helpful to me when I was planning my trip to Imfolozi so thought I'd pick your brains
Wasn't planning on returning to southern Africa but there was this killer sale on Emirates to JNB from Seattle so I was forced too :-0
Have reservations already for KTP,now want to go back to Botswana
Really do not feel comfortable doing a self drive there like we do in KTP and KNP so am going with a local company and doing a more cost effective option than flying in and out of private concessions. Will be doing a Mobile safari ,camping in tents ,but with a guide,so it's not cheap and want to get value for my dollar
Planned stops are Moremi,Savuti and Ihaha with 4 nights in the delta staying at BOGA campsites
So,what's the deal? how crowded does it get in the public areas of the park? Will there be a dozen vehicles at a sighting? I was assured the BOGA campsites are very private;the last thing I want to hear is noise beyond the sound of animals
I did look over a few posts here and it's looks OK just want to be reassured
I know you guys will come through for me!

Hello, judik!

Will get Gump to have a look, he hangs out there...

I reckon you'll get more Rands than Pula, dunno if that helps? lol

It is much less crowded than Kruger !

I stayed at Nxai Pan this last September and had the site to myself.

It is what I enjoy about Botswana !

0/* Judik,

I would like to do something like that. It would be very nice if we could get a kind of Travel Tale from you, when you get back. It could answer a lot of questions that some of us, who want to go to Botswana are having.............Please 0/0 ;-)

Will do Lisbeth
The company I am using(read about them on Africa geographic) has three levels of tours. Two are private and the price depends upon the level of accommodation. They do group tours which seemed very reasonable based on the other prices I have seen.Wanted to do the group tour but the days didn't work out

You will hardly find Moremi crowded, but at Chobe it can get a bit busy. There are about 10 - 11 public sites at 3rd bridge, South Gate, Xakanaxa while the BOGA site far away on their own consessions. The chance of seeing all the cars at 1 site is very slim so expect max 4 cars. 3rd Bridge can be popular and if the sighting is not too far from camp you can expect small crowd, but nothing compare to KNP.

Where will you be staying at Ihaha? Ihaha is the public campsite consisting of 10 sites. There are some great Boga camps around and if I must choose one it will be Kabulabula. Just difficult to reach if the water is too high. When you drive east in the morning you may find a bit of traffic along the river, but I am sure the guide will know what to do. Late afternoon most people spend time on the boats and more quiet along the water edge.

Savute very similar to Moremi so it should be a very pleasant trip.

Enjoy and show us those pics. :-0 :-0 \O

Had a great time between Botswana and KTP
Best predator sightings of all the trips we've take to Southern Africa which number 7
Will try to get a trip report together
All told in 18 nights between the two areas we saw
28 Lions
11 Cheetah
12 Wild dogs
2 Leopard
2 Wild Cats
1 Brown hyena

And a bazillion elephants!!!!!
