Re: Richprins' Short Business Trips to The Park
Lovely comments!
I don't know what white balance is, Robert?
Anyway, the last "spot the animal" was reedbuck!
They are relatively common in the PK area, which is why they are called "Common Reedbuck"!
I quite vividly remember a sighting here a long time ago when they were whistling to each other, a peculiar reedbuck thing, but not this time?
Anyway, off to the Dam parking lot....and as said earlier, the animals seem to like walking along the dam wall, for some reason?
An unusual angle....I quite like this shot. Very peaceful!
And the ellie duly arrived at the main beach....I think it just wanted to chase away some antelope that were drinking there...they do that these days all over the place...
While scanning around through the binocs, I got a massive fright!
A little Middle Eastern boy peering back at me... They had parked next door and he was stretching his legs and casually leaning against the Silver Suppository...
The rest of the family was enjoying the sights very much!
They were foreigners, seemed to be a gathering somewhere judging by the incoming convoys I saw during the day. The father approached me politely:
Fa: "Do you know where ze river is?"
RP: "Well, I think you mean the Sabie Ri..."
Fa: "No, ze RIVER!"
RP: "Ok....just go back to ze...the tar road and turn right and carry on for about 50 km, you will get to a BIG river!"
Fa: "Ok! Sank you very much!"
And off they went!

Re: Richprins' Short Business Trips to The Park
Great sighting of reedbuck
I hope you explained to the foreigners that they should return to their car

You should have told them that they can get a better pic if the walked closer along the dam wall

Ag no, they didn't have a clue, although one girl stayed in the car and looked a bit embarrassed?
Back to camp to see if anyone was back/up...
Quite a larney spot, will make a thread "guesthouses" later with detail pics!
The guesthouse has a "viewing deck" looking over the fence at the bush...
And it was now breakfast at lunchtime sort of thing...more of the same, with everyone suddenly sprightly!
This is the sort of fashion sense one encounters....
The brothers discovered possibly the mother of the slain carpenter bee while cleansing the woodpile...very scientific! Prinswilliam only had one beer for lunch...
Good boring they do, I must say!
I was itching to go to Mestel Dam, as my goddaughter had allegedly seen a leopard there when the minifam was there that morning...
Pw: "Yeees! Of course I'll join you!"
RP: "Great! Let's go!"
Pw: "First a quick swim!"
RP: "Ja, ok!"
Family: "We also want to swim!"
RP: "Err, ok....but lets not faff around too much? "
Pa: "Ja! We'll come to the pool just now and join you, and faff around first, though! "
Needless to say, it was excruciating at the pool waiting for Pw to stop the endless faffing...and the heat and humidity was building up rapidly indeed...
I hit on the idea of phoning Prinsadam and saying I was taking his children and brother and a coolerful of mineral water NOW!
It worked!
Off to Mestel Dam!
We got there and saw not a single animal for an hour....
And Pw left me and entered Pa's vehicle....have a horrible rear pic of him transferring vehicles, but not suitable for family viewing...
So I sat for another hour or two alone, testing my limits re heat etc. And saw a monkey!
A bit of a blur after that, but back home for divine steak supper!

I love your enthusiasm about everyone and everything! Even over your loafing family
The guesthouse looks superb! But you must remember taking photos of food before everyone has polished it off the plate.
Three reedbuck in the last spot the animal... WOW for the reedbuck!

Don't know who took the elephant shot with the gorgeous clouds , but it's wonderful.

Nice looking guest house, at least from the outside
