*** Travel Tales ***

07 – Once in a Lifetime (part III) Final episode

(please start with Part I)

Welcome back at this last episode…..

The lions were still drinking…

and eating …..

-
Image
-

and drinking ….. what a beautiful light …golden light over these lions…

-
Image
-

and then…………. it started to happen !!!

view on the lions…time: 18:27 PM so it’s getting a bit darker

-
Image
-

LH side of the waterhole …. White Rhino waking up and walking towards the waterhole

-
Image
-

Suddenly… lions moving fast , panic ? what happened… ?
Ohhhhh my…. No…… Yessss…. Two Black Rhino’s entered the scene mother with young, very close to the feeding lions…. Breathless… is this real ??

-
Image
-
And thinking the Black Rhino’s will be afraid and running away ? Noooo not at all, the mother even charged the lions…

-
Image
-

So many lions and this brave mom and kid …. We were so afraid the lions would attack them , specially the young rhino

-
Image
-

Lions were too busy with their buffalo kill … looking at the pictures again now…I have this PFFFFFFFFFFFFTTTT again.

-
Image
-

The Black Rhino’s decided to move to the left , away from the lions and followed their way to the waterhole.
In the mean time the White Rhino was on his way to the right side after drinking…
Never seen White and Black together ? Here they are

-
Image
-

Some sound from the vehicle (with 3 older rangers together) next to us…
Wowwwwwwwww… Amazing…… This is Once in a Lifetime…. And together we were the only ones left… time 18:33 PM so most people had to leave before this rhino appearences , closing time gates is 19:00 PM

The Black Rhino’s came closer to the waterhole… and the Baboons were still waiting …

-
Image
-

While the Black Rhino’s were drinking a lion was also on the way to the waterhole, captured them together. I remember Elly and I were shaking heads… but it was real…

-
Image
-

Mother and child together…

-
Image
-

A last overview of the scene with the rhino’s and one of the lions.

-
Image
-

Since we don’t see Black Rhino often …. A last view on these great animals.

-
Image
-

Like always they have these kind of wounds on their body, it’s not because of the lions earlier.

Suddenly… like Black Rhino do… turning 180 degrees and run away… and child running behind the mother… are we Black Rhino or not…….

-
Image
-

And the Lions ? They were still feeding… some looking at the two rhino’s running away…
The only victim was the buffalo

-
Image
-

Time: 18:40 PM so 20 minutes to get to Skukuza
On the way back we still could not really realize what we have seen.

Crazy… more then 20 lions with a kill, 2 Black Rhino so close to them… a White Rhino crossing the area…

Yesss… the remark of that ranger is right I guess…. “Once in a Lifetime”

Thanks for being with us and hope you liked it

Awesome observation, aat! With black rhino you never know what will happen, a mother might attack whatever she thinks might be a threat, but this one decided to show you her softer side ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^

Thx Toko,
It was amazing and idd , you don't know what you can expect with so many lions close to the two black rhino. We were afraid for the young rhino but I think these lions were full and did not attack them. But being there with the wide view at all sides it was a sighting we never forget O0
