Ode On An Eternal Love
My eyes grew wider, my breath more shallow,
silenced, at that first sight
of your rugged beauty, harsh, but hallowed.
Pure Power, fierce Force, sheer Might.
Two decades, and more, after first we met
that awe, that reverence, grows stronger yet.
A sacred place of sinister songs and primordial screams,
that alert, cast their spell, and mesmerize.
Juxtaposed, or so it seems
against deafening silence and liquid golden eyes.
So many quiet heartbeats spent in pensive wonderment,
so many nights under your diamond studded Firmament.
Tis said "It's about the journey, not the end"
the path's experiences, not the final destination.
A distinction not necessary to rend
The voyage offers Wisdom, its achievement, elation.
Each trip's trajectory is unknown and unique,
quietly unveiling insights into answers I seek.
Unexplainable, my compulsion to be wrapped in your arms,
whose wild swings of schizophrenia are undeniable.
Suddenly, the punishing Sun that over warms
turns coldhearted, frozen, and unreliable.
Testing the strongest to survive
and keep Nature's amoral selection alive.
Born To Be Wild - An Untamed Travel Tale*
Re: Born To Be Wild - An Untamed Travel Tale
Nature, morally neutral and value free
is unabashedly, resplendently exposed
for all who aren't afraid to see
their preconceived ideas deposed.
You inspire deep reflection, empty of platitude.
You offer your soul, all I give is my gratitude.
In troubled times my thoughts often wander
to the calm sweet solace I find in your presence.
In happy times I leisurely ponder
the Source of the power that is your essence.
In good times and bad, you are dear to my heart,
a Land desperately missed, from whence I depart.
When, at last, old age prohibits my travel,
I shall not turn ungrateful and bitter, nor sad.
When physical and mental prowess unravel
I shall daily rejoice in the years we had.
When your red sands and I must finally part
My memories shall forever dance in my heart.
The last page is written for every mere mortal,
for Father Time, has sealed our Fate.
But I shall enjoy one final chortle
as I pen the last entry upon my slate:
My one last trip, my ultimate return,
shall be for all Eternity, in my Grecian Urn.
